If you were to ask a Flatiron staff member what our desert island wine would be, there’s a very good chance the answer would be Riesling. It’s much maligned, but the great Rieslings of the world are some of the finest, most terroir-expressive and versatile wines. Melsheimer is a 5th generation estate in the Mosel Valley — the most vaunted winemaking region in Germany — and they’ve been certified biodynamic by Demeter since 2009. The Handwerk cuvée shows off the citrus, apricot and melon notes often found in Mosel Riesling, with just a soupçon of residual sweetness. A natural pairing for Thai, Indian or Szechuan takeout.
